How to get around Gdańsk safely and quickly?

Getting to the airport

Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport is conveniently connected to the city centre and the University of Gdańsk’s Oliwa Campus. The quickest public-transport option is the PKM train. From Gdańsk Wrzeszcz station, take a train towards Gdańsk Port Lotniczy. The journey takes around 25 minutes.

The Tricity area

Tricity is a metropolitan area made up of three neighbouring cities on the Baltic coast: Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia. Although each city is independent and has its own character, they are located directly next to each other and function as one connected urban area.

Public communication

The main way to travel between the cities is by the train system called SKM. Moreover, cities also have their bus and tram systems. Tickets from all of them can be bought through the Jakdojade app, at ticket machines or inside some trams and buses. There is also a city bike system available called MEVO.

Weather in Gdańsk

September in Gdańsk can be absolutely beautiful, but as a coastal city by the Baltic Sea, its weather can be unpredictable! Here is what you need to know to prepare for your trip:

Expect the Unexpected: You might enjoy warm, sunny days, but the weather can quickly shift. It is very common to experience strong seaside winds and sudden rain showers.
Check the Forecast: It is recommended to check a reliable weather app a day or two before your arrival to get the most accurate picture.
Pack for Everything: No matter what the forecast says, always pack in layers! Be sure to bring a solid windproof jacket and an umbrella or a light raincoat, just in case.

What to see in Gdańsk?

The Royal Route and Long Market

This is the vibrant, historic heart of Gdańsk. Taking a stroll down this pedestrian street, you can admire beautifully reconstructed, colorful merchant houses, grab a coffee, and soak in the lively atmosphere.

Museum of the Second World War (Muzeum II Wojny Światowej w Gdańsku)

A world-class, incredibly moving museum. Housed in a striking modern building, it features deep, immersive exhibits detailing the global and Polish experiences during WWII.

European Solidarity Centre (Europejskie Centrum Solidarności)

Located right next to the historic Gdańsk Shipyard, this fascinating museum and library tells the inspiring story of the “Solidarność” (Solidarity) trade union movement and Poland’s fight against communism.

Oliwa Park (Park Oliwski)

If you need a relaxing break from the bustling city center, head to this beautiful 10-hectare park. It features lovely French-style gardens, peaceful walking paths, and a greenhouse with exotic plants.

Museum of Inclusion in Amber

The primary mission of the Museum of Inclusions in Amber is to collect and preserve fossils preserved in fossil resins, conduct scientific research, collect natural varieties and forms of amber and conduct educational activities. What’s important you can visit it without leaving the Conference venue, as it is located at the Faculty of Biology UG.
